    Bag Boy

I haven’t put this to the test yet, but it makes my golf travel bag sit up nice and straight in my living room. I will come back and edit this after my trip.

    Beats aftermarkets

Ha a few bag trees. This one is best.

  4. Signsofus

    Good value

Works really well and very easy to use. Just wish the circumference of the protection dome was larger so it would fill out my golf travel bag a bit more than it does and stop any clubs from sliding forward into a position that could cause damage from the airline baggage handlers.

    Worked Great!

Just got back from a trip to The Old, and this protected my clubs perfectly. Had 1 layover through Frankfurt, Germany before Edinburgh and all clubs were intact and the shafts were fine when I arrived in Scotland. I stuffed towels and rain gear around the clubs to help pad things out, but the Backbone prevented anything from smashing down on my clubs. Would definitely recommend, and you can’t beat the price.

    Non standard use

I use this to hold up the cover on our table on our deck. Posts fits through the umbrella hole in the table. Prevents water from collecting on the cover. Works perfectly!

    Makes a world of difference

I have an older soft sided travel golf bag (Bag Boy Brand). This thing made a big difference, not only did it add more protection for my clubs it made the bag more rigid and that made it more maneuverable. It as adjustable lengths and seems well made, it is light weight and does add much heft when you travel with your clubs.Good product. If you are buying a soft sided travel cover for your clubs I would spend the money and get one of these as well.

Easy to setup and very sturdy. I just took a 3 flight golf trip and all my clubs held up well.

    Good Value

Perfect addition to my golf hard travel case. Now my clubs will not be shocked by the weight of the golf bag. Also, it is easy to adjust to the right length.

Easy to adjust but at the cost of stren

Having the real ease button at the top of the device makes it super easy to adjust the length while in the bag. BUT, having the button there puts a weak spot right in the middle of the very part of the device you want to be strong! I’ve had two of these break in the exact same way, in a perfect circle around the adjustment button! Too bad As I said, I liked the design but I’m looking for a simpler one now that has a stronger ‘umbrella’.

    Golf Club Travel Protector

I never had a breakage or damage problem when I shipped my golf clubs in their travel bag without a backbone protector. However, Because I didn’t want to experience a damage loss when I got to my golfing destination, I decided to buy this inexpensive stiff protector. Not much more can be said. Can’t say if they would have been damaged without the protector. It seems to do an appropriate job as it is designed to do.

    Highly recommended

I recently traveled from Las Vegas to Texas and purchased this dor my clubs and bag. It fits wonderfully and I love the fact that it’s easy to use and small enough to store away when not using it. Highly recommended

  24. gerard

I think this only does half the job……

this would have been so much better if it add extra “disks” you could add to make the top diameter larger. while it might the tallest thing in my bag it is only a small area. it would have been better if was the diameter of the top of my bag, then all my clubs would be safe. i feel the only safe one is the ones that manage to stay under the cap and that is only if it can stay tucked under it. i expect in transportation things to move so they will be a target. i may add my own disk that slides on from the bottom and is a larger diameter.also it would be nice if had more settable positions, mine as 2, too long and too short. with a different mechanism they could make it infinitely adjustable in small increments.

Did not work – my driver head snapped

Did not work. Driver snapped and the backbone did not protect the clubs. Not sure why I bought this if it does not protect the clubs.

  26. Bill S.

    Wish there were instructions

First time traveling with clubs and it kept them safe in my bag. Because it’s adjustable I wasn’t sure how tall it should be or what the optimal position in my bag would be. Would have appreciated instructions.

    Saved my Driver

I just got back from my first trip using this support rod and it saved my driver! My future in-law traveled with me and wrapped his clubs up in bubble wrap before putting them in his travel case without any support rod. When we opened our cases to pull out the clubs, his driver head snapped off but my clubs were fine. So happy I purchased this and put it in my bag or I might be replacing my new driver. Highly recommend!

The backbone did a great job keeping my soft sided bag straight, and protected my clubs. Do not buy a soft sided bag without a Backbone.

    Great Product – Highly Recommend

Great product. I was preparing for a east-west coast round trip and I really wanted to pack my golf clubs as I planned to play a few rounds. I’ve suffered through poor club rentals so I was excited about using my own (new) clubs. After reading the reviews, I decided to purchase two Bag Boy BackBones to make sure I had enough coverage within my Sun Mountain travel case. The solution worked perfectly as I could tell after installing the BackBones as they absorbed the pressure at the top of the travel case (vs. my longer woods). I was also “lucky” enough to see my travel bag unloaded off the conveyer belt when the plane landed and our friends at United Airlines aren’t exactly setting these bags off gently to the side. My bag was tossed into another pile of golf bags already removed. A good investment considering the cost of a replacement driver no matter what insurance/refund policy the airlines provide as the best situation is to avoid the situation.

    Boat Canvas Holder Upper

With as much rain as we get in Florida this does a great job of keeping the canvas puffed up so that water does not accumulate during and after rain storms.

Essential for any golf travel bag

If you travel with golf clubs, you absolutely need this.I’ve probably had golf clubs travel over 100,000 airline miles and had every possible thing bad happen to them… And i’ve tried every type of bag from padded to hard-shell to a military crate… And I’ve tried several of the golf bags that are themselves an actual travel case… the problem is that… the airlines treat your luggage like a rag doll so no matter what, there is nothing that can prevent extreme tossing and impacts. The reason I love this little device is because it is simple… I also love that a super inexpensive, but brilliantly designed, device can out-perform the $1,000 golf cases or more expensive bags… So now, all you do is use any standard travel bag, put this in your regular old golf bag, extend it and with my experience, you’re actually much better protected as the expensive cases. The one additional task I always do, which I’ve always done with even the hard cases, is to wrap a couple of my golf towels and golf jacket around the clubs to keep them from banging against each other before closing up the bag.Save yourself tons of money with a simple product that works better than the much more expensive options / cases.

Great device, but came with a bunch of straps??

This works great but has additional items attached that seem odd. I think most of the negative reviews are because people are not turning the handle after they lengthen it, to tighten. When turned and tight, it’s great. But the straps are confusing… Not seen in any part of the description.

  37. Tom Oliver

    Great as advertised!

Has kept my clubs safe for all 8 flights so far and it has no wear yet. Def would recommend

    Top piece broke off

I really like this product aside from the fact it broke. The plastic dome at the top broke at the shaft, so it’s come off. I’ve tried super glue but I don’t think that will be good enough

Keeps my clubs safe, easily adjustable

I bought this after my driver was broken by the airline — even though I had wooden dowels in the bag. The wooden dowel snapped in half and my driver broke. I have used the Bag Boy on four trips and nothing is broken! Simple button to expand and collapse height of pole. Seems very sturdy and not too heavy. Tip: I place my driver and fairway wood in the slots adjacent to the Bag Boy pole and then put a small bungee cord around the clubs with the pole in the center to ensure they are protected by the Bag Boy support. The protected plastic cap will not cover your entire bag (which you would not want as it would be too big) but is enough to protect your long clubs.

    Protect your golf investment.

I have unique wood clubs and I wanted a means to protect my investment. Worked great with the travel bag I bought.

  42. Jordan Cussimanio

    Sturdy and effective.

Bought this after a friends driver was snapped by the airline when we were going on a golfing weekend. Works great and adjustable to fit your bag. If you don’t have one and travel on any airline I highly recommend this product.

  43. KC

    Worked well

I’m not sure this was necessary, but it gave me some extra peace of mind knowing it was bracing my travel bag. Of course if the bag landed hard enough on its side I doubt this would offer that much protection. It was easy enough to install just longer than my driver and it collapses nicely when not in use. It seems rugged enough to take quite a bit of abuse.

    It does what it does

Hard shell golf bags give the best protection but they are inconvenient and cumber some to travel with and store. The backbone does an excellent job of providing “drop” protection for your clubs in soft sided bags (most airlines won’t cover damage to club in soft sided bags). My only concern is that if a drop right onto the top occurs the protection provided my involve the sacrifice of the backbone because of plastic component. If the top were aluminum instead of plastic this product would be perfect.

    Does it’s Job.

Adjusts easily, stays securely in place when set, keeps the top of my clubs from encountering pressure from the top of the travel bag as advertised. Took a few moments to figure out how to depress the release button on top center to expand to needed length once placed in bag, reading the product instructions might of helped with this.

A Must Have if you travel with Golf Clubs

The Bag Boy Backbone is very easy to use. There is a yellow push-button on the top end that allows you to extend or retract the length. Be aware that the diameter of the bottom end of the Backbone is about 1.5″ with the rubber cap – it fits fine in an open top golf bag, but is too big to fit into golf bags with individual club tubes or holes for each club. The Backbone is very rigid when extended. If you’re taking your bag and clubs on a flight, this Backbone is a must, paired with a good travel bag like the Constrictor 2 travel cover.

Broken within a year on just one flight

Backbone broke within a year after just one trip. The push button is stuck in the down position.

    Keeps clubs safe.

I travel with my clubs at least once a month and this has been perfect in keeping my clubs safe. No issues so far and seems to hold up well.

  49. Dsardinta

    Works Great

Shipped my clubs a couple of time in a soft sided golf travel back and the backbone worked great. I was able to take the head off my driver, this allowed all the clubs to remain underneath the support stick. No fear of shipping my clubs again with this system.

  50. Belacyrf

    Solid Idea.. Cheaply Made.

We bought two of these to use with our newly purchased golf travel bags. Our bags arrived at their destination without issue, drivers in tact and everything was good. I was very happy with the purchase.Unfortunately, after I had pulled the clubs from the back of the rental 4Runner, one of these backbones fell out of the back of the hatch. It dropped maybe 2 to 3 feet and the head snapped right off. My first thought was (crap I need to buy another one for the trip back). My second thought was, if my bag falls and if it hits the head like it did hear, that head is going to snap off again and my clubs are now unprotected.I think these ideas are great and most people who buy them will probably never know how easily they break. But if you buy this keep in mind, that head will just snap right off if it’s not handled correctly.

Works like it should, saves your clubs

Using this backbone was a little cumbersome at first but after putting in my travel bag I got the hang of it. Very sturdy and the easy release button at the top of the unit was a nice touch

    Very nice product!!

Found the original on sale for the price of knock offs. Works well and must have for soft travel bags. Cheaper than a driver or 3.

  54. Jim K.

The Bag Boy BackBone works as advertised!

Although I read some negative reviews regarding the BackBone, including complaints of poor quality, I ordered the product anyway. I received my BackBone in new condition and it appeared to be a solidly constructed product of quality design and workmanship. That said, I was still concerned with reviews that indicated the BackBone had not survived transport when properly installed with golf clubs in a golf bag. When I packed my clubs in my golf bag, I covered my irons and fairway metals with head covers and then used bubble wrap to provide additional protection for the clubs and to fill the voids between the clubs and the BackBone. I then installed the golf bag cover and placed the golf bag in a Bag Boy travel bag. In this configuration the BackBone was immovable and in a fixed position protecting my bag and clubs from an impact to the top of the bag…just as it is designed. After two airline flights my clubs and BackBone have arrived intact and undamaged with the golf bag and clubs just as I had packed them.

worked as advertised, travelled to asia from usa to play some golf. Upon arrival golf clubs were intact, no issues.

    Good club protector

Worked great. Used on a couple cross country trips with a towel wrapped for additional cushioning in a soft travel bag.Although some reviews show bent/broken from travel, it shows what could have happened to a driver if it was not used.

    Great Quality!

Pretty straightforward product. My golf bag slots are on the smaller side and the product still fit and was sturdy. Easy to use and lightweight.

Strong support and works fine. Don’t know why some reviews say otherwise.

Maybe this product went through a design change, but it is very simple. You push the button at the top and adjust to the length you need. There is no twisting the top or any need for additional instructions. It is very simple. After getting the backbone in my bag and into place, I pounded on it multiple time and also applied sustained pressure and the backbone did not bend or slide down. I suspect people that have had trouble have simply received a defective product. You can clearly hear when it clicks into place as you are adjusting it. If I have any issues with it while flying this weekend, I will update my review.
